Risk Assessment Checks

  1. Check that all cables and plugs are sound, including extension lead;

  2. Check the outer casing for any damage to include the control panel with the switches and dials;

  3. Check inside the feeder slots to ensure no balls or debris remain inside;

  4. Check the ball hopper to ensure it is moving freely and is free from damage;

  5. With the machine sitting in the correct position on level ground, switch the power button on to check the ball hopper mechanism moves freely without any unusual noises;

  6. Check action of the oscillator, ensuring the machine moves freely from side to side;

  7. Finally, check the elevation function moves up and down freely and can be secured in position.

Should any of the above not work then Do Not use the ball machine All defects should be reported to a member of the Club Committee. (see below)

Instructions (after Risk Assessment checks)

  1. After taking machine on court open ball hopper and check for any loose balls or debris in the ball hopper;

  2. Before filling with balls switch on the power and fill the hopper with good quality balls (Do NOT use old balls that have lost their pressure);

  3. Do not use any Mini Red Tennis balls as these do not have enough pressure for the machine to pull through;

  4. Place the machine with the ball aperture facing towards the net and test out the elevation control to ensure the optimum setting required for the drill you wish to practice;

  5. Do not stand directly in front of the ball aperture or block it in any way when operating;

  6. Never place hands or objects within the ball hopper mechanism whilst the machine is connected to a power source;

  7. Ensure the ball machine is clear of any obstructions before returning to the Cabin;

  8. After use, please return to the Cabin and ensure that the machine is disconnected from any power supply;

  9. Please note, any moisture on the tennis balls will result in some balls not being propelled properly, if this happens then please stop and replace with dry tennis balls;

  10. If the ball machine becomes jammed or does not function correctly, please isolate the power and return it to the Cabin before notifying a Committee Member. (Robert Beaumont 07767 890859 or Denis Clough 07972 519896)
